Maryland’s Democratic leaders are demanding answers from Republican U.S. Senate candidate nominee and former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan regarding allegations that he voted to approve millions in housing awards for his own real-estate firm’s clients while serving as governor through the state’s Board of Public Works contract approval process.

The head-to-head televised event was the first and likely only debate between Larry Hogan and Angela Alsobrooks in the race for Maryland's open Senate seat.

In their only faceoff in the solidly blue state, Hogan sought distance from Trump and the national GOP, while Alsobrooks touted her support for "the Democratic agenda."

The last Republican to run for Senate in Maryland won only 34% of the vote. Angela Alsobrooks, this year’s Democratic nominee, has deep experience in Maryland politics and leads Mr Hogan in polling, sometimes by double digits. The Economist ’s election forecast gives him a mere 6% chance of winning.
